Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, in collaboration with Oceanside Public Library will hold the 6th annual “Write On Oceanside! & Summer Shorts Play Festival”, celebrating San Diego County’s authors, Thursday, June 22nd, through Sunday, June 25th, 2017.

It is already North County San Diego’s largest literary event! And this year, the organizers are adding “Summer Shorts” play competition to the program making it a four-day major event in Southern California.



Now accepted are submissions for short plays (no longer than 10 minutes) from published and non-published amateur writers within San Diego County until the deadline of April 24th, 2017. Local actors and directors will be contributing their talents for this community event. Yes, “Summer Shorts” competition of short plays will be presented on stage of Oceanside’s oldest 200-seat Brooks Theatre with performances Friday, June 23, (6:00-9:00 PM invitational tech rehearsal), Saturday June 24 (7:00 to 9:00 pm), and Sunday June 25 (2:00 to 4:00 PM). Audience Choice ballots will be collected for the best-voted short playwright at the end of the event. A “Best Play” plaque will be given to the winner, and recognition to the 2nd and 3rd place contestants. The Brooks Theatre is located at 217 N Coast Highway in Oceanside.

Regardless of their acceptance to the staged “Summer Shorts”, this year local authors will display their works at the MainStreet Oceanside’s Sunset Market held downtown Oceanside on Thursday, June 22nd, where attendees will have an opportunity to talk with their favorite writers, meet new local authors, take pictures, get autographs, and purchase books directly from the authors. Workshops and featured author’s discussions with be held during the day on Saturday, June 24th at Oceanside Civic Center Plaza and Library Community Rooms. Published and self-published authors in fiction and non-fiction categories are considered to the fair. Accepted are children’s books, teenage, how-to, comics / graphic novels, poetry, plays, science fiction / horror, biography / autobiography, gardening, cookbooks, animals, photography/art, mystery and spiritual. Lots of fun await participating writers during the course of the festival, including presentations and educational workshops. Participation is limited. San Diego based playwrights and published authors may apply for the book fair or submit their short play by email to WOO@ocaf.info
